One of the reason why I decided to go to Haerbin, was to catch the yearly Snow and Ice festival(哈尔滨国际冰雪节)! There are a couple of similiar festivals held around the world(Sapporo Japan, Quebec Canada, Ottawa Canada, Brugge Belgium, Taebaek and Hwacheon, South Korea)
The festival officially starts on 5 January and lasts for a month! It is spectacular to catch the impressive icy structures at night. Most hotels can arrange for transport to and fro from the different festival grounds. Therefore do check with your hotel whether it is possible.
I caught the shuttle service to visit Ice Park on Sun Island. Here you can catch sight of Frosty replicas of famous landmarks. For 1 1/2 hours, I found myself trotting around the globe and visiting spots around Asia pacific, America and Europe at a cost of JUST 75rmb! If only they were the real thing!
Remember to bundle up, as the temperature is way below freezing point. Another thing, please wear a pair of non slip shoes, as the ground can be quite slippery. So do walk with caution. Other than walking around, visitors can slide down ice slides and take a ride on a horse drawn carriage.

Indian Food - Annalakshmi - Chinatown Point but moving to Central Square #01-04
Diners can pay the amount of what they think the meal is worth @ Annalakshmi!!! You ought to try this when you have the time in Singapore, if you have not done so!
I have heard of this concept in Japan and have watched it on Japan Hour. There is no fixed rate for staying in the Ryokan りょかん. The guests will decide how much they want to pay for the experience when they check out! Despite not having a fixed rate, the service and food quality is still top notch!
Annalakshmi at Chinatown Point(It is closed now, but will be moving to Central Square #01-04 by Mid June). It is an Indian Vegetarian Restaurant, which has a similar concept! The varieties depend on the Chefs(volunteers) for the day. Here you can try family recipes, which have been passed down through the generations and dishes which are not found in most Indian restaurants. It is buffet style with a wide variety of dishes including desserts! And the best part is that there is unlimited servings of Masala Tea, Lassi(Sweet, Salty, Fruit flavours) & Lime Juice!
This place is usually quite crowded, so please make a booking or you will have to queue. This is not a place for a long chit chat with friends, once done with your meal, please vacate your table for another hungry diner.
Please support them when they re-open in Mid June at Central Square #01-04 (near Ministry of Manpower at Havelock Road)
The other arm of this eatery is at:
104, Amoy Street, Near Far East Square
Near Tanjong Pagar or Raffles Place MRT

Singapore Biennale 2011: Old Kallang Airport
Wait no longer, you have until 15 May to visit the venues(Old Kallang Airport, Singapore Art Museum and SAM at 8Q, National Museum of Singapore & Marina Bay) to catch sight of the Arty Farty displays at this year's Biennale. Please click here for more information.
Old Kallang Airport - A part of Singapore's Historical Fabric. I have not taken a plane from Kallang Airport(First Civilian Airport), not worked for the People's Association(Early Headquarters of the PA) and been inside a Plane Hangar. With 32 of 63 exhibitions there, it was an opportunity which I could not miss.
Exhibitions
I was captivated by this picture
Let's Create Music with our Bodies - A super cool exhibition! When walking across the floor, the body will act like a radio's antenna. Depending on where you stand, if you are at the "right" position, music from our local radio stations will be played on the sound systems. If not you will hear the out of frequency "zaaaaa....." sound! (click on the pictures to enlarge them to check out the stations)

Sketches of Famous landmarks & Buildings in Singapore on recycled papers. I wish I could sketch like that. Would love to have such pictures to decorate my wall.

Futuristic Architecture - Anything is possible in the future!
A Provision Store - such shops are located below most HDB blocks. They provided residence the convenience of shopping for daily necessities(Sundries, Pots, Brooms...) These stores may fade away due to urbanisation, but I am sure they will be re-created to allow our future generations to remember our past! Enjoy a slice of our past with this exhibition!
This piece of artwork brought a smile on my face (Please click on it to find out why)
